Dixon withdraws
PA Invercargill Rod Dixon has pulled out of the national cross-coun-try championships to be run near Invercargill today. Dixon was suffering from flu, race officials said. The main challengers for the senior title include last year’s third placegetter, Ken Maloney (Auckland), Tom Birnie (Canterbury) who was fifth last year, and a former winner, Paul Ballinger (Taranaki). The titleholder, Rex Wilson, of
Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay, has not entered. The senior women's race includes the top three placegetters from last year. Gail Rear (Northland) will defend her title against her team-mate Heather Matthews and Judith Clark (Auckland). Canterbury has a strong team in the junior men’s race in Kevin Faas, Elliott Drayton, and Robert Howej!. >
