New Public Health Director
PA Wellington Dr John Stoke has been appointed Director of Public Health, to succeed Dr C. M. Collins, who has retired, the Health Department said. Dr Stoke is Deputy Director of Public Health, and head of occupational health for the department. He was senior medical
officer for the Ministry of Transport in 1976, and moved to the Health Department in 1977 as principal medical officer. Dr Stoke was the first person in New Zealand to be elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
