Police ask for help on bayside burglaries
The Lyttelton police have appealed for information about a recent spate of burglaries of holiday homes at Charteris Bay.
Five houses were broken into in the area, one of them twice, between Sunday evening and Wednesday. Property valued about $3OOO was taken.
Detective Terry Moyse, of the Lyttelton police, said it appeared the burglars were “setting up” a flat or house. A refrigerator, a deepfreeze, tables and chairs, sewing gear, and boxes of food were stolen.
The burglars would have used a van, truck, or car with a trailer to shift the stolen goods, said Detective Moyse.
He would like to hear from anyone who might have seen such vehicles in the area between Sunday and Wednesday.
