South Island ski-field conditions reported to the Christchurch Snow Centre yesterday were.— Amuri: 1.26 m base; last fall August 4; all facilities operating; chains carried. Broken River: 80cm base; all facilities operating; chains required. Coronet Peak: 60cm base; last fall 10cm July 31; all facilities operating; chains carried. Cardrona: Last fall 3cm August 1; all main trails groomed; all facilities operating; chains required. Craigieburn: Pockets of windblown snow in gullys; all facilities operating; chains required. Mt Cheeseman: Windblown powder, T-bar and pommer operating; chains required. Mt Dobson: 60cm base; last fall 30cm August 1; packed powder on main runs; all facilities operating; chains required. Harris Mountains: 2m base; last fall Im August 1; powder snow; helicopters operating subject to weather. Mt Hutt: Im base; all facilities operating; packed pqwder ■ snow conditions; chains re-
quired. Ohau: 1.2 m base; packed powder; main trails groomed; all facilities operating; chains required. Porter Heights: 50cm base; powder ski-ing over whole mountain; main runs groomed; chains carried. Tasman Glacier: Last fall 80cm August 2; ski-planes operating subject to weather. Tekapo: 40cm base; last fall 35cm August 2; packed powder, all facilities operating; chains required. Temple Basin: firm snow; two lifts operating. Treble Cone: 1.45 m upper90cm lower base; last fall Im July 31; all facilities operating; chains carried. Fox Glacier: Windpacked powder base; spring snow conditions at lower altitude; helicopter and ski-planes operating subject to weather. Remarkable: 25cm base; last fall 10cm August 1; suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers at the present time. Two Thumb heli-ski: 1.5 m base; introductory and full day heli-skiing available. NZ Heli-ski: helicopters operating subject to weather from Queenstown.
