Indoor bowls agenda full
A big week-end lies ahead for the leading indoor bowlers in Canterbury. The champion-of-champions pairs title will be decided at the Kearneys Road hall on Saturday. Championship pairs winners from about 70 clubs will contest the event.
Canterbury will attempt to wrest the Williamson Trophy from North Otago at the Wainoni Community centre, also on Saturday. Teams for the Williamson' Trophy are made up of two men and two women.
On Sunday night, the touring North Island team will meet a Canterbury selection at Kearneys Road. The tour, which started with matches against combined teams at Blenhiem and Hokitika, will continue with games against teams in Ashburton, Oamaru, Queenstown and Invercargill. The tour will wrap up with a North-South clash at Dunedin on August 17. The Canterbury team, weakened by the omission of players selected for national and South Island teams, is still expected to provide strong opposition. Simpson, D. Swarbrick. B. Spear, B. Cone, C. Williamson. North Otago: R. Sangster, W. Owen, M. Hodges, A. Smith, N. Ford, M. Johnson, I. Heer, P. Powell.
The Canterbury side to play the North Island is: E. McLennan, B. Immers, P. Hinman, N. Johns, M. Watson, O. Bate. D. Adam, E. Ashby, K. Anngow, I. Kamo, D. Philpott, T. Thompson, P. Van Oossanen, G.
