Legal advice
Sir,—My solicitor’s waiting room has several leaflets outlining aspects of law as they apply to the person on the receiving end — the client. What the Law Society seems to ignore in these leaflets is that people need to know a bit more about fundamentals, rather than aspects. If the society could supply material in simple language telling us the purpose and modus of say, family law, criminal law, law of contract, and even, perhaps, that peculiar animal, law of torts, we clients might be more able to sort ourselves out when it comes to deciding what our particular problem is. Then we could present it to our lawyer more coherently and efficiently, which would saver time and heartache all round. I arri sure
the profession could provide such basic information without giving away too many trade secrets. — Yours, etc., TED HICKS. August 8, 1985
