Walk-out at play

Sir,—l am very upset that the noise caused by over 100 “fuddyduddies” leaving the theatre may have drowned out some of the nonstop obscenities of “Christie in Love” at the Nelson One Act Play Festival. As one of those who objects to the promotion of perversion and obscenities, even in the guise • of “theatre,” I thought it ironic that the representative of

the festival sponsor joined the organiser in walking out. It is regrettable that a high standard of acting and technical expertise must be wasted. Perhaps the director of this moral vacuum will soon feel confident enough to tackle scripts with words of more than four letters and costumes which remain intact. Meanwhile, in selecting this play as the winner with such unstinting praise, the adjudicator has challenged all young actors in repertory to get down and wallow in the same decadent mire if they hope to succeed.—Yours, etc., R. E. MULLEN. Blenheim, August 6, 1985.
