Lunchtime concerts
A programme of regular Friday lunchtime recitals will be presented in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre from this Friday. The first is a recital by Jeffrey Grice, a Christchurch born pianist of considerable international standing. The winner of the Auckland Star Piano Concerto in 1975, Jeffrey Grice went on to study under Yvonne Loriod and Germaine Mounier in Paris. In 1983 he was
made a Laureat of the Menuhin Foundation, and has toured extensively throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Violinist Carl Pini and Jane Hazelwood (viola) present the second lunchtime recital on August 16. Carl Pini enjoys an international reputation as a violinist and has played in and conducted some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the English Chamber Orchestra,
the London Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. At present he is musical director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Peter Wilkes, secretary of the Classical Guitar Society, will perform his third public recital on August 23, and Clifton Cook will present a recital by his top pupils on August 30. Each recital will begin at 1.10 p.m.
