False cheque given for Coast deer
Greymouth reporter A Kowhitirangi farmer has been given a valueless cheque for $31,500 for nine deer — six yearlings and three adult hinds. The Hokitika police are anxious to hear from any deer farmers who might have bought similar deer since July 27. Sergeant R. J. O’Connell, of Hokitika, said yesterday that anyone with any in-
formation should get in touch with the nearest police station. The purchaser of the deer is thought to be from the North Island. He arrived in Kowhitirangi to collect the deer with a vehicle since found to have had false number plates. The deer could have been disposed of in Canterbury, according to Sergeant O’Connell.
