Dog trialists in Q’land
Five of New Zealand’s leading dog trialists will compete in this year’s Queensland Royal Show, which will start tomorrow. J. Kingan, of Oamaru, will lead off in the heading event. Four other heading dog men, N. Hore and P. McCarthy, of the South Island, and J. Stringfellow and K. O’Connor, of the North Island, will make up the New Zealand team for the final on August 17.
The competition will be run under the Australian rules for dog trialing, the main difference from New Zealand rules being that the competitor must not help the dog at any stage. At the Taieri club trials recently, Eric Stringer became the first New Zealand dog trialist for 15 years to win four open events in one club trial. Bob Wilson achieved four wins at Patearoa in the late 19605.
