CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER DUE TO THE retirement in December of the Chief Executive Officer, the Association seeks to appoint a successor to take up the position by October 31. THE ASSOCIATION Y.H.A. is a non-profit, registered charitable organisation with nearly 30,000 members. It is a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation which covers 55 countries, with 4 million members and over 5000 hostels worldwide, which generate 28 million bednights annually. Y.H.A. operates a network of over 40 permanent hostels throughout New Zealand, augmented by up to 15 seasonal hostels of varying terms, mostly during the summer. Of the annual 250,000 bednights, 80 per cent are accounted for by foreign Y.H.A. visitors. THE POSITION Duties will include administration of the National Office and branch offices in Auckland and Wellington, public relations duties, overview of the hostelling, marketing, travel, financial and maintenance operations, promoting the interests of Y.H.A. to Government officials, members of Parliament, and commercial interests and the furtherance of the aims and objectives of the Y.H.A. and its members. The successful applicant will report to an elected chairman and national executive. The location is Christchurch city.
