Badminton upset
PA Auckland Taranaki provided a shock on the first day of first division Slazenger Cup badminton competition by beating Wellington, 20-18, in the capital last evening. The loss virtually destroyed Wellington’s hopes of regaining Wisden Cup status. six rubbers in
straight sets and winning only four by the same margin proved costly for Wellington when the contest had to be decided on a countback on games. Convincing winners yesterday were Auckland Ilf. who beat Southland, 19-6, and Counties, who accounted for Hutt Valley -I'4-2. ,
