Mr J. B. Price

PA Wellington Mr John Blundell Price, formerly chairman and managing director of Shell Oil New Zealand, has died. He was 79. Mr Price, who was born in Greymouth, joined Shell in 1928 in its law office. He worked his way to branch manager before going to the London head office in 1951. He was then appointed general manager in New Zealand. In 1955 he became managing director of the New Zealand board. Mr Price became an outside director of Shell New Zealand after his retirement in 1967. He was also chairman of the National Bank of New Zealand from 1974 to 1975. He was a director of the New Zealand Motor Corporation from 1966 and in 1968 joined the board of M.L.C. Mr Price was also chairman of Shell BP and Todd Oil Services, retiring from there in 1967. He was a member of the council of Victoria University of Wellington, a director of Dominion Motors, and a member of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. In 1963 he chaired the advisory committee on higher salaries for State servants. He was also a director of Steel and Tube and the National Gas Corporation. Price was a member

of the Wellington Medical Research committee and took a leading part in the work of Outward Bound. He was a great-grandson of the founder of the “Evening Post,” Mr Henry Blundell. Mr Price retired from all activities in 1975 because of ill health. He is survived by his wife, and two children.
