College teams the winners
St Thomas’s College and St Andrew’s College were the winning sides in two interesting first XV rugby encounters on Saturday. St Thomas’s College beat Shirley Boys’ High School, 8-3, with both Chris Morrison and Shane Leys scoring tries for St Thomas’s. David Eden kicked a penalty goal for Shirley. In the other match, St Andrew’s beat Linwood High School, 29-12, and although St
Andrew’s scored four tries to one the game was much closer than the final score would indicate. For St Andrew’s, tries were scored by Reid Wilson, Dugal Cockram, Stephen McGuinness and Andrew Lester. Ralf Brunie kicked three penalty goals. Linwood’s points came from three penalty goals by George Wright and a dropped goal by Peter Williamson.
