Changes for Mercedes

Updated versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-class models will be launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Externally they will be not much different from current models, with only minor cosmetic changes, but there will be some far-reaching mechanical changes. The 280 SE will become a 300 SE with the elderly twin camshaft 2.8 litre engine being replaced by the new single overhead camshaft 3 litre in-line six cylinder engine that powers the 300 E, which is the top model in the W 124 range. The other models will retain the all aluminium V 8 engine, but their capacities

will be raised from 2.8 to 4.2 litres and from 5.0 to 5.6 litres respectively. It is also probable that the current semi-trailing link rear suspension will be replaced by the multi-link system now used in smaller Mercedes models.
