Famine aid ‘sitting on docks’
Save the Children Fund relief workers in Sudan have reported that less than one-third of food supplies are getting through to famine victims, says the fund’s New Zealand president, Ms Betty Pearson. Road, rail, and air transport were being used by the fund in a concentrated effort to unlock Sudan’s food pipeline, she said yesterday. “The nutritional health of the population has deteriorated rapidly in the last few weeks, with rains making primitive roads impassable.
