Poor response surprises dentists

Canterbury dentists are surprised at the lack of response to their offer of free dental examinations as part of dental health month. A spokesman for the Canterbury branch of the Dental Association, Mr Tony Wood, said yesterday that the dentists in the extended Canterbury area had offered 1500 free dental consultations to people in the 20 to 25 age-group. “So far we have only had 250 to 300 people reply to the offer, and we can cope

with up to 1500,” he said. Mr Wood said that it seemed that money was not the hitch when It came to people avoiding the dentist. The free consultations were offered to that agegroup because people often did not go to the dentist after finishing their free treatment at the age of 18. The free consultations have now been extended to those aged between 19 and 30, he said. Anybody wishing to book a consultation should telephone 559-234.
