‘No’ to meat report
PA Wellington The meat industry giant, Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating, has rejected proposals to close 40 per cent of New Zealand’s freezing works. After consideration of the Australian consultants’ report to the Meat Industry Council, Waitaki has given it the thumbs down. The company listed its objections to the report, still neither accepted nor rejected by the council, in its house magazine. Greater efficiency within individual departments of existing companies would benefit the industry more than the consultants’ plan to lure unprofitable works out of business by introducing a tradeable killing rights scheme, the company said.
