Shield processions
Ranfurly Shield processions will begin again on Saturday, when the challenger is Southland. The venue is Hornby, with the starting point the working men’s club car park at 10 a.m. The procession will make its way around the block and finish in the mall. Once again the organiser is Trevor Smith, or the
Canterbury Rugby Supporters' Club, and he reports plenty of enthusiasm. He could still find space for another float or two, however. He can be contacted at 842-580. “We knew that this was very early to start processions, especially with school children still playing rugby. But the interest appears to be there.
“We will be repeating some of last year's ideas, like prizes for the bestdressed float and the bestdressed lamb, but we do have some new ones as well,” said Mr Smith. He added that a large contingent of Southland supporters was expected tomorrow, and would be enterifig a float.
