No tour —swimmers

PA Auckland The Swimming Association has joined groups opposing the All Black tour of South Africa. The association’s president, Mr Don Stanley, said an executive committee had voted unanimously to oppose the tour. The group decided to consider the issue only after comments by the chairman of the, Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association, Mr Roy Dutton. On his. return from the Commonwealth Games Federation meeting in Edinburgh last

month, Mr Dutton said member countries were surprised New Zealand sports bodies had not spoken out against the tour. Mr Stanley said his association had* no wish to compete against South Africa but could not even if it wanted to. “South Africa is not recognised by our international body and we have made no attempts to change that,” he said. Mr Dutton said he had received only one letter from a sports body opposed to the tour. That was from the Weightlifting Association.
