Road widening

Sir,—l register a strong protest against the suggested widening of Barbadoes and Madras Streets to three-lane motorways. My reasons are: 1, The number of schools (four) which border Barbadoes Street. This street has many short blocks and children already endanger their lives dashing across them. 2. The mutilation of Latimer Square. We have little green space in which the general public and workers in the east can take a break. 3. We have already suffered the harassment and inconvenience to people forced to leave their homes for a fire station which did not eventuate. Should those living north from Cashel Street be so disrupted? — Yours, etc., FRED A. CAMERON. June 30, 1985.
