Aircraft noise

Sir,—E. R. Schneider (June 28) is right. More people should complain if they are sick and tired of loud engine noise overhead day and night, seven days a week (five days and nights from the Air Force and two days from week-end glidertowing aircraft). I do not know why the Air Force persists in flying over housing, especially at night (up to 11 p.m.) when people, young and old, are trying to sleep, and during the day when babies have been put down for their daily nap. Surely it could do its flying over Lake Ellesmere and the open country around the lake area, instead of persistently upsetting residential areas of Christchurch.—Yours, etc., K. P. iAYLOR. July 2, 1985?
