Handel and Bach music
The small based string orchestra, the Baroque Players, will perform music by Handel and Bach in four New Zealand cities during this month and August. This group will provide one of the highlights of the Music Federation’s celebration of 300 years since the births of the two great Baroque composers. Directed by Dr Peter Walls of Victoria University, the Baroque Players specialises in performing music of the Baroque era in authentic style. The group
achieves this by playing on authentic instruments or accurate reproductions. Over recent years the group has used personal instruments in concert. However, the Baroque Players is building up a collection of instruments for the group itself, thus ensuring the group’s aim will be safeguarded in the future. This will be the Baroque Players’ second tour for the Music Federation of New Zealand, and will take them to Hastings, Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland. The Christchurch concert will be on July 29.
