Gilgamesh epic
“The Epic of Gilgamesh” is not a play but an illustrated story. The Blue Ladder theatre group will perform the epic at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery on Friday and again on August* 30, September 27 and November 1. Bill Direen, of the Blue Ladder, said the group hoped to combine the atmosphere of the earliest civilisations with today in the retelling of the story. Traditionally made instruments, sculptural objects, painting, live and recorded sound, light and
photography will depict aspects of the story. The story is being workshopped at the Blue Ladder in Cashel Street on Mondays to Wednesdays from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. until November. The production team is Mr Direen, his wife Carol, and Malcolm Dodge. As well as performing four times as part of the McDougall gallery’s Outreach programme, the group will perform the epic on the Tuesday after each gallery performance at the Blue Ladder in Cashel Street.
