Mason award
Applications are now being accepted for the third Bruce Mason Playwrighting Award. Independent Newspapers, Ltd, and Playmarket are again offering $2OOO to a playwright of promise to assist in the writing or completion of a work for the theatre. The award was established in 1983 to mark the contribution to New Zealand theatre of the playwright, Bruce Mason. The applications, which close on August 15, must include evidence of writing ability such as a completed
script or draft, an outline of a specific writing project with an indication of how long the project would take to complete with the assistance of the award, and details of writing commissions or awards. The panel of an experienced playwright and those in the theatre will select the recipient of the award, giving preference to well advanced and clearly planned projects and those most likely to be of interest to theatres. Previous recipients of the Bruce Mason Award are Fiona Farrell Poole and Simon O’Connor.
