Socialism
Sir,—M. Creel says lam Utopian because I think the future socialist society will be one of moneyless, wageless production for direct use (not for profit by selling), and that there will be no geopolitical barriers to the free movement of people. "Utopian” is a nice pejorative term that puts upstarts in their place, but it will not wear in this case. The cashless society is a definite move towards a moneyless society, and from there to the wageless. The Socialist Party of Britain and the Socialist Party of New Zealand have always given the thumbs down to Fabian-style gradualism, but we have seen how Topsy has grown since the 1930 s and she can still grow more. Depend upon it, it is the idealists and “impossibilists” who make people move mountains, and they always will. — Yours, etc., TED HICKS. June 29, 1985.
