St George maintained its one-point lead in the Sydney rugby league premiership when it beat Cronulla-Suther-land, 28-10, last weekend. After losing to Cronulla the previous week, Balmain headed off Western Suburbs, 16-10, to share second position with Parramatta, which was an 18-10 winner over North Sydney. In other matches Canberra beat South Sydney, 17-10, Penrith was a 32-6 winner over Illawarra and, on Monday night, Canterbury-Bankstown beat Eastern Suburbs, 14-7. Manly-Warringah had the bye. Points: St George 27, Balmain 26, Parramatta 26, Cantebuty 24, Manly 21, Penrith 20, Canberra 19, Easts 18, Cronulla 14, Souths 12, Wests 11, Illawarra 10, Norths 10.
