Nuclear-free legislation
PA Wellington The Government expects to introduce its nuclear-free legislation after the South Pacific Forum in Rarotonga, said the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. The early August South Pacific Forum of Pacific nations including Australia and New Zealand is due to consider a draft for a
nuclear-free Pacific treaty. Mr Lange told a postcaucus press conference that he expected the New Zealand nuclear free legislation to follow the treaty negotiations. The proposed legislation is expected to formalise the Government’s opposition to visits by nuclear-powered warships.
