Mr John Benge

Warrant Officer John Benge, a senior instructor in the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps at Burnham Military Camp, died in Christchurch recently. He was 68. Mr Benge, who was born in London, was on a working holiday in New Zealand at the beginning of World War 11. He joined the New Zealand Army, where he served with distinction.

Mr Benge completed 12 months service in the

Korean War from 1955 to 1956.

Later, he served as a warrant officer instructor in the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps at Burnham Military Camp for more than 10 years. He was known as a “firm but popular instructor,” said his commanding officer in the Korean War, Lieutenant Colonel William Dillon.

Mr Benge is survived by his wife and two daughters.
