Australian worry

PA Wellington The New South Wales state government is concerned about the number of Australians who visit New Zealand for ski holidays. The New South Wales Minister for Tourism, Mr Michael Cleary, said at a press conference in Wellington yesterday that the devalued New Zealand dollar had helped sell New Zealand as a tourist attraction to Australians.

“We get concerned at the number of people who come over here for ski holidays. Particularly the price. “The package that Pan American has ’just had in Sydney was quite a spectacular one.

“They tell me Pan Am now is working with our own people in Auckland to do a similar situation for the people in New Zealand to come into Sydney,” Mr Cleary said. A Pan American spokesman told NZPA yesterday the ski package was for $424.58 (sAust299). He said it included the return airfare, the first night’s accommodation in Auckland and a rental car for seven days. Mr Cleary was elected to

the state Parliament in 1974 and represents the Sydney beachside electorate of Coogee.

He visited New Zealand during the week-end as a guest of the New South Wales Rugby League and the New South Wales Rugby Union.
