June ‘wetter and warmer’

PA Wellington New Zealand had a wetter and warmer June than was average, the weather office said yesterday. Good falls of rain relieved May’s dry conditions in South Canterbury and Otago, but some of these falls were still below local averages. Central New Zealand, the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki and

Waikato received up to 70 per cent above average rainfalls, while the North-land-Auckland area recorded about 20 per cent below normal. Over all, temperatures were I.3deg warmer. Day temperatures were I.2deg above average while night temperatures were I.4deg above average. So far this year, New Zealand temperatures have been o.4deg above average.
