Surprise cycle win

The Hope Gibbons 40km team time trial cycling event at Levin on Saturday was won by the little-fan-cied Southern Districts A team from South Island. The national final was held in wet and windy weather and Southern Districts, led by F. O’Brien, was trailing the favourite, Tingeys Dulux Waikato, by 32s at the half-way mark. But by the three-quarter mark the Tingeys team, had

faded and could not keep up the pace of the eventual winner, Southern Districts. The Stratford (West Coast) team finished third with the Healing Papanui team, of Christchurch, finishing a disappointing fourth. Thirteen teams rode in the final and results were:—
