Northampton buys Hill

Ricki Hill, the English striker who made a big impact with Christchurch Brother United two years ago, has been involved in an $83,000 soccer transfer between two English clubs.

The swift, skilful attacker has been transferred from the Alliance Premier League club, Nuneaton Borough, to the Football League fourth division club, Northampton Town. Hill, aged 21. was half of a double transfer along with a 23-year-old midfield player, Trevor Morley. Nuneaton had been in a difficult financial position, but the cash from the transfer should lighten the club’s immediate burden. In his season with United, Hill scored 12 Rothmans League goals and impressed as a sharp, penetrative striker. He will need to produce his best for the struggling Northampton Town club next season, as it finished second from last in the fourth division, and was obliged to apply for reelection to the league for 1985-86.

The Northampton Town manager, Graham Carr, was fulsome in his praise for Hill in newspaper reports.

“The lad’s got everything,” he said. “He’s tremendous in the air, a very strong player and can score goals." He added that Hill is

the sort of player Northampton is hoping will attract fans back to the club.
