Floppy disc Amstrad

A floppy disc version of the Amstrad home computer is being aimed by its distributors at the New Zealand small business.

Grandstand Leisure, of Auckland, describes the Amstrad CPC664 computer as “a powerful, yet low cost, small business computer with applications in the serious home market.” The CPC664 is an enhanced version of the Amstrad CPC464 home computer from Britain released in New Zealand last year. The CPC464 has had favourable reviews as a well packaged home system.

A three inch floppy disc drive is standard on the Amstrad CPC664 and the CP/M operating system is included in the system. The keyboard has been upgraded, with the cursor keys enlarged and placed in

a diamond pattern. The CPC664 also has ports for a second disc drive and a printer. An Auckland company will be able to copy existing CP/M software to the

CPC664’s three inch discs and will develop business management software for the machine. Grandstand Leisure has itself released hotel management software on the new machine.

An Amstrad CPC664 with keyboard, disc drive and a green or colour monitor will sell for about $l5OO. With a letter quality printer the total hardware cost will come to less than $2500.
