Rakaia River decision

Sir,—The M.P. for Selwyn makes the astonishing suggestion that the Minister of Works and Development should ignore the Planning Tribunal’s recent ruling on a Rakaia River Conservation Order. She is advocating a kind of anarchy — if a law is interpreted in such a way that it goes against what you perceive to be your

interests, then it should be disregarded. Miss Richardson’s legal training surely should have taught her that judicial decisions should not be taken so lightly. The tribunal deliberated long and hard over a mass of complex and conflicting evidence. At the very least its recommendations should not be overturned except by due legal process.—Yours, etc., COLIN BURROWS. June 28, 1985.
