TOP: Members of the Christchurch Muslim community prepare for prayers at the new mosque in Deans Avenue yesterday. It was the first time the mosque has been used for a religious gathering. The community was there for congregational prayers to celebrate the end of Ramadhan, the Islamic month of fasting. Celebrations were held later. There will be no official opening for the mosque, which has been under construction for two years. It was built by M. L. Paynter, Ltd. BOTTOM: Muslim women at yesterday’s first prayer meeting in the new mosque.
