Women jeer wet T-shirt contest
PA Wellington Women Against Pornography picketed the final of a wet T-shirt contest at a Lower Hutt hotel on Wednesday evening. The demonstration was peaceful, and unmarred by the violence at a heat of the competition two weeks ago when four protesters were arrested. Forty demonstrators outside the hotel were almost outnumbered by police. An audience of 300 was undaunted by the jeers of the demonstrators. Inside, seven women, wearing T-shirts that had been dipped in cold water, competed for a first prize of $4OO. The hotel manager, Mr Denis Howard, said he had no plans to stage further competitions, but he said this had nothing to do with the demonstrations.
