Enquiries: Peter Lord, New Testament Church, Ph. 831-177. wBP WAITANGI TRIBUNAL INQUIRY UNDER TREATY OF WAITANGI ACT 1975 NOTICE is given that Huirangi Walkerepuru and Nga Kalwhakapumau 1 te Reo Incorporated Society (the Wellington Board of Maori language) have lodged a claim with the Waitangi Tribunal to the effect THAT — Section 77A of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 fails to make the Maori language an official language for all purposes enabling its use in Parliament, the Courts, Government Departments, local authorities and public bodies. — the Broadcasting Act 1976 and Broadcasting policies fail to provide an adequate commitment to the Maori language in broadcasting — the Education Act 1964 and educational policies fail to provide adequately for the Maori language and that — the Health Act 1956 and the Hospitals Act 1957 fall to provide adequately for the Maori language in health services THAT these things are contrary to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi THAT they are prejudiced as a result AND THAT they seek reform of those acts and policies THE TRIBUNAL will hear persons who may wish to be heard on these matters, including the relevance of and interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi, and who may be able to assist the Tribunal in its inquiry.
