University Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC APPLICATIONS are invited from qualified persons for the following positions: LECTURER 1/ SENIOR LECTURER IN MATHEMATICS POST 85/30 Applicants should normally have a post graduate qualification in mathematics/computer science with teaching experience at tertiary level. Preference will be given to those qualified in Computer Science or Numerical Applied Mathematics particularly operations research. The post is immediately available. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience in the Lecturer I scale: $F13,921-$F18,919 or Senior Lecturer scale: $F19;525$F22,815. Appointment to this post will be for a fixed term contract of two years. LECTURER 11/ LECTURER I IN ENGLISH POST 85/31 The appointee will be required to teach mainly registers and varieties of English and literary stylistics to both Internal and external students. Additional duties will involve components of psycho-linguistics, sociolinguistics and English grammar. Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree in English or in Linguistics with a strong modern English language component; a qualification or experience in TESL and/or in training teachers of English would be an advantage. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience in the Lecturer II scale: $F12,017-$F13,446 or Lecturer I scale: $F13,921— $F18,919. Appointment will be for a contract period of three years and may be renewable by mutual agreement. Further particulars are available on request. In addition the University provides gratuity amounting to 15 per cent of basic salary, appointment allowance and subject to the University’s current housing policy, partly furnished accommodation at a rental of 1214 per cent of salary. The University will contribute a sum equivalent to 10 per cent of the appointee’s salary towards his superannuation obligations. Teaching vacancies exist at both a senior and junior level. Teaching and research experience within a university environment would be desirable from candidates for the more senior position.
