Intermissions at cinemas
Sir,—As a newcomer to New Zealand, I am surprised and irritated by the persistent use of the intermission in movie theatres. Few films are made with deliberate halftime breaks. Nothing destroys the intensity and continuity of a good movie more than an artificial, sudden stop for the sole purpose of giving the audience a chance to go to the toilet, or to eat. We pay $4 for the dubious privilege of patronising the snack bar or watching a selection of the worst commercials in town. We can enjoy better food and livelier ads on television in our own home.—Yours, etc.,
SANDRA MACDONALD. May 27, 1985.
