Lincoln awaits sewerage plant

Work on the Lincoln township sewerage scheme is not likely to start before spring, according to the Ellesmere County engineer, Mr Ray Anderson. Mr Anderson said yesterday that the council would welcome yesterday’s High Court decision on a planning appeal which had held up the scheme. The High Court has upheld a Planning Tribunal decision allowing the council to cut the second stage treatment process in the plant. “We are naturally pleased with the outcome,” Mr Anderson said. “You always have some doubts.” Mr Anderson said he thought the High Court rul-

ing was also subject to appeal, and so the council would not take steps to start the sewerage scheme until the appeal period had elapsed. Work was not likely to start before spring. He said that the council was unlikely to issue building permits for Lincoln until a fairly definite finishing date was in sight for the sewerage scheme. No new developments have been permitted in Lincoln for some time, with potential developers being told they must wait until the town’s treatment plant is improved. The latest building application rejection was for a Trusteebank Canterbury development in the township. 4 Earlier report, page 4
