Celtics beat Lakers
NZPA-Reuter Boston Scott Wedman set an NBA play-off record yesterday when he hit on all eleven of his field goal attempts as the Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers 148-114 in the opening game of the National Basketball Association championship play-off series. The defending champion Celtics set five play-off records in crushing the Lakers
before a capacity crowd of 14,890 at the Boston Garden. Wedman and another Boston reserve, Kevin Mchale. who started yesterday, each had 26 points while Larry Bird and Danny Ainge both had 19 points. The second game of the best-of-seven series will be played at the Boston Garden early on Friday morning (N.Z. time). The series then moves to Los Angers for three games.
