Ellerslie honours Skelton
PA Levin Bill Skelton, who will retire at the end of the season, has received an invitation from the Auckland Racing Club to ride at its meeting on July 9. Skelton will ride mounts arranged by the president of the Jockeys’ Association, Mr Norman Holland. The club also intends to hold a cocktail function in the evening at which Skelton and his wife, Nella, will be guests of honour. Skelton has metxwith considerable success on the Ellerslie course, his main win being on Lucky Son, which he also trained, in the 1965 Auckland Cup. Other big wins on the course have been the Railway Handicap, on Maria Mitchell, and the 1966 Great Northern Sires’ Produce Stakes on Kastrup, after which he was presented to the Queen Mother, which Skelton rates as one of his greatest moments in racing.
