Stablemates back in work

Hands Down and Premiership are back on the active list with their Templeton trainer, Derek Jones. Both horses thrived during a brief spell which began after they contested the New Brighton Cup at Addington Raceway on April 25. “They both put on weight while they were in a great paddock near Leeston,” said Jones. “All going well they will be racing at Addington in August.” Hands Down, now rising 10, has been one of the stars at the last five national meetings. Last August he attempted to win the Louisson Handicap for the fifth successive season, but he had to bow down to Norton and Our Mana in a spectacular finish. Although he won only one race this season, he more than paid expenses with

nine placings from his other 17 starts and winnings of more than $33,000. This advanced his total to $309,480. One of his unluckiest runs was his third in the Lion Brown Easter Cup on April 6 when he overcame a check 600 m out to finish just behind Our Mana and Premiership. Premiership, runner-up in the Easter Cup, finished a most unlucky third to Lord Louie and Camelot in the New Brighton Cup at his latest start. He met trouble in the run home and did well to return a dividend. He has now had 40 starts for 11 wins and 12 placings worth $65,680 in stakes. A son of Lordship. Premiership has been rather slow maturing. He looks the type to develop into a top winner next season.
