Burglars jailed for attempted rape
PA Auckland Two teenagers who set out to burgle a house attempted to rape a girl, aged 16, when they found her alone in the home, the High Court heard at Auckland. The youths were jailed for three years after pleading guilty to the attempted rape, burglary and theft. Malcolm Keith Otton, aged 18, unemployed, of Papatoetoe, and Iki Pinasi Ikitogia, aged 18, a gardener, of Mangere, left the Papatoetoe house after the complainant offered them money, Mr Justice Chilwell said.
His Honour said the two men entered the house at night with robbery or burglary as their motive but once inside sex became uppermost in their minds when they saw the girl. The girl was not an acquaintance of either of the offenders and she became extremely frightened by I their presence and their actions. She persuaded the two men to cease their attempt to rape her by offering I them money. Ikitogia left the house after he was I given $3O and Otton followed him.
