Art achievement award
The second Turnovsky prize for outstanding achievement in the arts, worth $20,000 will be awarded in July this year. The prize can be won on nomination only and will go to an outstanding artist, or group of artists whose work, in the opinion of the jury, is of the highest artistic quality, or has made a significant contribution towards
the cultural self-identifica-tion of New Zealanders as a nation. The jury is chaired by Mr Fred Turnovsky, trustee of the Turnovsky Endowment Trust, which funds the award. Other members are a co-trustee Mrs Helen Philpott, and three invited members, Miss Shona Mafarlane and Mr F. H. Corner and Miss Janetta
McStay, the well-known musician from Auckland. The first winner of the prize was the writer Janet Frame. Anybody can make a nomination and should send it to P.O. Box 6171, Wellington before 30 June 1985. The prize will be presented at a special function .by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange.
