Sulaiman Zai

Since his debut in 1973, Afghan classical guitarist Sulaiman Zai has received enthusiastic acclaim for his recitals and broadcasts. Born in Kabul, he began his study of the guitar at the age of 11. He continued studies in the United States. He was the first guitarist to win the artist diploma to the School of Music at Indiana University.

He performs a range from the Renaissance to Bach and Rodrigo to modern composers. On June 11 he will present a lunchtime recital at the School of Music at the University of Canterbury.
