Fijian netballers win N.Z.’s respect
NZPA correspondent • Suva The New Zealand Young Internationals overcame their toughest test of their threenation Pacific netball tour yesterday when they beat Fiji 7430 at Lautoka's Churchill Park courts. But the Kiwis ended their second match in Fiji with another big win and travel to Suva today confident of finishing their tour of the Cook Islands, Western Samoa and Fiji unbeaten. Fiji came back strongly in the last two quarters as the afternoon sun started to cause headaches in the New Zealand camp. The New Zealand coach,
Yvonne Willering, said: “This is the only team to contain us in the last two quarters. They are definitely fit.” Willering had to change her team around after the third quarter to contain the gutsy Fijian performance. The spot on shooting of the goal attack Diana Sullivan, who came on in the last quarter, took them beyond Willering gave credit to the Fijians for their persistence in keeping up with the game until the end. “This was our toughest game so far. The Fijian side?...Give them credit. They fought right back to the last whistle. Our next game will be tough, you can bet on that.”
