Deaths still a mystery

PA Auckland The police have been unable to discover the reasons for the deaths of three infants in a Grey Lynn house. Detective Inspector Peter Robinson, in charge of the case, said that no charges would be laid as a result of police inquiries into the deaths. The three children died in a 25-day period in February at the Great North Road home of an extended family. The police were still not sure how Delphina Wilson, aged two, died. Her two cousins, Catarina Tuivailala, aged four months, and Noora Tumaki, aged 11 months, were both believed to be cot-death victims.

An inquest into the three deaths would be held next month by the Auckland Coroner, Mr Stephen Osbourne. He angered the family by keeping Delphina Wilson’s body for five weeks before releasing it for the tangi. Members of the family believed the deaths were caused by a tapu at the house because it had been built on an ancient burial ground.
