Sir Yehudi now British
NZPA-AP London Yehudi Menuhin, the New York-born violinist who has spent most of his life in England, has become a British citizen and will be known as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, say his agents. The 69-year-old musician was made a Knight Commander of the British Empire in 1965 for his services to music, but the title was honorary because of his foreign birth and he could not call himself “Sir.” He can now take up his title. “He was offered naturalisation by members of the Government and he accepted it with joy and pleasure and is very honoured,” said Fiona Eakins of Menuhin’s agents.
